Set Up

Before you drive, make sure you're comfortable and familiar with the key controls

You can access the Controls screen by tapping the car icon:

Bluetooth Connect

  1. On your phone, enable Bluetooth and ensure it is discoverable.

    Note: On some phones, this may require you to go to Bluetooth Settings for the remainder of the procedure.

  2. Touch the Bluetooth icon located at the top of the Controls screen.

  3. Add New Device > Start Search. The Bluetooth settings screen displays a list of all available Bluetooth devices within operating distance.

  4. Choose the phone (or device) with which you want to pair. When pairing a phone, the Bluetooth settings screen displays a randomly generated number. Your phone also display a number.

  5. Check that the number displayed on your phone matches the number on the Bluetooths settings screen. Then, on your phone, confirm that you want to pair.

Driving

The Tesla turns on automatically when you sit in the driver's seat.

Charging

All EV's on our fleet have a minimum range of 200km when fully charged. Range estimates based on current battery level are visible in the Mevo app for all available EV vehicles. Check out our EV Best Practices to make the most of the range available to you.

Unplugging Tesla at start of trip:

If a Tesla is plugged into one of our Mevo chargers, please follow the following steps to release the charger:

Start trip > Open door > Click "unlock charger" > Pull out charge cable > Close flap

Opening charge port:

On the touchscreen, navigate to Controls > Charging > Open Charge Port.

Disconnecting charger:

  1. Press and hold the button on the connector handle to release the latch.

  2. Pull the connector from the charge port. The charge port door automatically closes.


Frequently Asked Questions

What type of charger does the Tesla Model 3 use?
Type 2 CCS (Combined Charging System) fast charging, and Type 2 destination charging. This is the most widely available EV connector in NZ.


Do I need to recharge before I end trip?
Any vehicle returned with electricity/fuel below 10% that can't be relocated to a supported charging/fuelling location and needs to be towed may be subject to a critical energy fee. This can include any costs incurred from towing of the vehicle plus a $35 administration charge.


What if my vehicle has low charge when I start my trip?
All vehicles visible in-app are required to have at least 20% fuel or EV battery. 20% charge in the Tesla Model 3 will be more than enough for most Mevo Trips within the Home Zone.


I am planning a long trip. How do I find a vehicle with over 50% charge?
If you do find yourself wanting to go on a long trip, hit the 🚘 icon in-app (top right corner) and select your fuel % threshold, i.e. 50%). You'll only see vehicles with the threshold % or higher.


Does the Tesla Model 3 come with a portable charger?

No, our EV's do not come with a charger. Instead, our app is integrated with the ChargeNet network around the country. Simply select recharge while on trip for directions to the nearest ChargeNet station and follow the instructions in-app.


Will I still be charged for trip costs while I am recharging?
Yes, you will be charged for trip costs while recharging a vehicle. This is because as soon as you unlock your Mevo to start a trip, this vehicle will be only accessible to your account and not be available for anyone else's. Billing will stop when you return the vehicle to an approved parking zone and end trip.


Can I use the Tesla Fast Chargers?

Yes you can! It's as simple as finding your nearest Tesla charger and plugging in the vehicle.


The Tesla is in Valet Mode. How do I get it out?

I can't open the glovebox?

All of our Tesla's gloveboxes are locked. If you are needing to store something, please use the center console (illustrated below) which should provide ample space. If you are looking for the insurance forms - these are located behind the passenger seat.
